Bible Text: “The harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into the harvest”. Matthew 9.32-38

Proclamation of the word of God is at the heart of the life of the Church. In fact She was born out of the word God and at the same time her task is to spread it to all the ends of the earth. The central theme of the good news answers the fundamental question of human existence such as who created us, what is our identity, what is the purpose of our life and where do we go from this world? This is so sacred because Jesus Christ Himself mandated us to do this work. This mission was primarily carried out by the ordained ministers but the church needs more people to share the load because of its immensity.

In the gospel, because of its urgency Jesus had asked the people to pray for more people to be involved in this noble ministry. Praying that the Lord sends Good News to the people is equivalent to volunteering yourself in this holy work. Your volunteering also means preparing to cooperate with others who have been called and sent to this mission. This is not just the task of the priest but a work to do by each one of us.

Personally, I am very thankful that in our parish we still have people who have the ardour to make this mission possible. However, we still need more people to be in the bandwagon. We need more who can devote teaching the word of God to children. We need passionate teachers to evangelize the kids in school. We need to establish a bible study in our parishes. The church is not just all about people who listen to the word of God but people who are willing to speak about the word and be a living witness before the community.

Pray for the increase of priestly vocation. Pray for the enlightenment of our parishioners. Pray for those who are losing their appetite for this work. Consider yourself to get involved in this project. Lord, send those who serve your flock. Send them as well as me.
