Bible Text: “I thank you Father Lord of heaven and earth because you have hidden these things to the learned and intelligent and revealing them to infants”. Matthew 11. 25-27

On the feast of St. Nicholas in 1273, Aquinas was celebrating Mass when he received a revelation that so affected him that he wrote and dictated no more, leaving his great work the Summa Theologiae unfinished. To Brother Reginald’s his secretary and friend expostulations he replied, “The end of my labours has come. All that I have written appears to be as so much straw after the things that have been revealed to me.” When later asked by Reginald to return to writing, Aquinas said, “I can write no more. I have seen things that make my writings like straw.”

The way to a fruitful relationship with God is not through knowing and understanding but Loving Him. Saint Thomas is gifted with exceptional intelligence. In fact his work which became an official teaching of the Catholic Church was nearly burned because of the revelation that he had received from the Lord. His encounter with Jesus face to face made him realized that when your heart is open it will certainly lead you to see God. His writings which are so precious to the Church are all in vain.

We need more loving people than intelligent few in the Church. Everybody knows that we have tons of books that explain our beliefs and teachings. We have already apologetically defended our dogmas and teachings. Enough about all these things. We need infants or children of God who are ever willing to live like Christ in generosity, humility and sacrifice. This is the way to thrive our church. Real children are not those who know more about God but do more the will of God. To love the Lord is to regularly read the word of God. We have to contemplate on them until it became an integral part of our life; until it became the blood that flows into our veins. We have to practice devotion to the holy Eucharist make this sacrament a part of our daily routine. Don’t you know that the Holy Eucharist is God’s miracle every day? Let us joyfully read the bible and receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. Jesus is asking from us to become the word made flesh and the living Eucharist in the midst of our community by radiating Christ’s generosity. We have to be spiritually rather than intellectually mature.

Lord, make us God’s children willing to love more than to know You!
